Genesis 35:5-8 “Re-naming A Significant Place, part 2”

 

We have been looking at the idea of how the journey itself changes a person. Jacob had become a different man than the one who dreamed at this place many years before. Jacob had changed so therefore his perceptions had changed thus the renaming Bethel to El-Bethel. We as men tend to think that life is about “getting it right.” When we don’t get it right we beat ourselves up needlessly. Rather, life, that is, the abundant kind that Jesus spoke about, centers on trusting the One who has it right already. “Our times are in His hands.” “Cast all your care on Him because He cares for you.” As we trust we will begin to change. As we change we will see differently. And as we see differently we will name things anew.
