Genesis 25:24-26

So what drives this propensity to either trip up or hold back the other? As long as I feel safe, in control and at the center of my world, all is ok. There is no need whatsoever to even consider the other. However, once the other is perceived as receiving what I feel I should have then something inside me awakens, resulting in an attempt to either trip up or restrain the other.

This is why our separateness as human beings tends towards a pulling apart rather than a coming together. This condition of separateness and its resulting effects is at the core of God’s reconciliation through Jesus Christ. Note Jesus’ prayer in John 17 “That they may be one as we are one.
