Genesis 42:1-43:15, Snapshot #2

 

The context for snapshot 2 is famine in the land and the return of the brothers from Egypt. Their sacks are full of grain. Their money has been mysteriously returned. The bad news is they arrive home without their brother Simeon who is being held captive in Egypt. This sets up an emotionally charged meeting with their father Jacob. The appeal is to return to Egypt with their little brother Benjamin. Jacob clamps down with an emphatic no! The famine gets worse. Cupboards become bare. Judah appeals a second time to his father. Jacob now releases control allowing Benjamin to accompany the brothers back to Egypt.
